1. Apurvi Chandela, the young shooter from Jaipur, who bagged the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow has shot her way to become the national champion in women’s 10m air rifle event at the 58th National Shooting Championships in Pune.

2. China and Nepal signed an agreement to expand the use of their currencies for border trade. The agreement was signed between the People's Bank of China (PBOC) and Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB). The agreement will boost bilateral trade and investment ties between the China and Nepal. According to the agreement, the two countries will use local currencies (Yuan and Nepal rupee) for settlement in both cross-border trade and ordinary trade activities. Both the countries also signed memorandum of understanding on anti-money laundering and anti-terrorism cooperation.

चीन और नेपाल ने सीमा व्यापार के लिए अपनी मुद्राओं के उपयोग का विस्तार करने के लिए एक समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए। समझौते पर पीपुल्स बैंक ऑफ चाइना (पीबीओसी) और नेपाल राष्ट्र बैंक (एनआरबी) के बीच हस्ताक्षर किए गए थे। समझौता चीन और नेपाल के बीच द्विपक्षीय व्यापार और निवेश संबंधों को बढ़ावा देगा। समझौते के अनुसार, दोनों देश सीमा पार से व्यापार और साधारण व्यापार गतिविधियों दोनों में निपटान के लिए स्थानीय मुद्राओं (युआन और नेपाल रुपया) का उपयोग करेंगे। दोनों देशों ने धनशोधन रोधी और आतंकवाद रोधी सहयोग पर समझौता ज्ञापन पर भी हस्ताक्षर किए।

3. The military chiefs of Afghanistan and Pakistan agreed to co-ordinate on military operations along border of two countries. Army chief General of Afghanistan Sher Mohammad Karimi and General of Pakistan Raheel Sharif agreed to co-operate in the presence of US General John Campbell, who heads NATO coalition forces in Afghanistan. The two countries also agreed to jointly take effective actions against terrorism and extremism.

4. With Shinzo Abe getting re-elected as Japan's Prime Minister, Gen Nakatani has been appointed the new defence minister. Other than him, all other cabinet members will retain their positions, Xinhua reported. Defence minister Akinori Eto declined the reappointment due to a political fund scandal.

1. Senior IAS officer S. Bhattacharya has been appointed as the Chairman and Managing Director of Coal India Ltd. (CIL). The coal major was without a full time chief for the past six months. Bhattacharya takes over the charge from Additional Secretary (Coal) A.K. Dubey who was given the additional charge as CMD of CIL from June 26.

2. Private sector lender Yes Bank has raised $200 million in an unsecured loan from Asian Development Bank for onlending to small farm households and rural womens’ self help groups (SHG). Apart from the unsecured loan, Yes Bank said ADB will also provide a Capacity Development Technical Assistance grant up to $1 million, which will be used for capacity building and improving the financial literacy of women borrowers.

5. According to International Monetary Fund (IMF) oil prices will remain low in the future which will help boost the global economy next year between 0.3 and 0.7 percent more than the 3.8 percent planned.

7. Taiwan launched its largest ever missile ship as the island strives to modernise its armed forces in response to a perceived threat from China. According to defence minister Yen Ming the 500-tonne corvette named 'Tuo Chiang' - is the first of its kind ever produced by Taiwan and is "the fastest and most powerful" in Asia.

ताइवान ने उसके अभी तक के सबसे बड़े मिसाइल जहाज का जलावतरण किया। इस द्वीप ने चीन से एक कथित धमकी के जवाब में अपने सशस्त्र बलों का आधुनिकीकरण करने के एक प्रयास के रूप में इस मिसाइल जहाज का जलावतरण किया है। रक्षा मंत्री येन मिंग के अनुसार 'तुओ चियांग' नामक 500 टन का कोर्वेटे ताइवान द्वारा बनाया गया अपनी तरह का पहला मिसाइल जहाज है और एशिया में "सबसे तेज और सबसे शक्तिशाली" है।

8. The deadline for exchanging pre-2005 currency notes of various denominations, including Rs 500 and Rs 1,000, has been extended by another six months till June 30, 2015. ''The Reserve Bank of India has stated that the public can do so till June 30, 2015. Earlier in March 2014, it had set the last date for public to exchange these notes was January 1, 2015'' the RBI said in a statement. The central bank clarified that all such notes will continue to remain a legal tender. These notes can be exchanged for their full value, it added.

भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक ने 2005 से पहले छपे नोट बदलने की अंतिम तारीख 1 जनवरी से बढ़ाकर 20 जून कर दी है। इसके चलते अब वर्ष 2005 से पहले छपे 500 व 1000 रूपए के नोट 30 जून 2015 तक बैंक से बदले जा सकते हैं। इसके बाद यह नोट बेकार हो जाएंगे। आरबीआई ने बयान जारी कर कहा, "भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक यह स्पष्ट करता है कि आम जनता यह काम 30 जून 2015 तक कर सकती है। इससे पहले मार्च 2014 में केंद्रीय बैंक ने ऎसे नोटों को बदलने की समय सीमा 1 जनवरी 2015 तय की थी।" आरबीआई ने यह साफ किया है कि फिलहाल 2005 से पहले के नोट चलन में रहेंगे और इन्हें पूरे मूल्य पर ही बदला जाएगा।

2. Rajinder Khanna has been appointed as Country’s external intelligence wing Research & Analysis Wing (R&AW) new Chief. Appointment related Cabinet Committee of Union Government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the appointment of Khanna to this post. Rajinder Khanna will succeed Alok Joshi who will retire on 31st December. He will be serving the post for two years.

4. 22 artists including renowned Hindi writer Ramesh Chandra Shah were conferred with the Sahitya Academy Award 2014. According to Secretary of Sahitya Akademi K. Sreenivasarao, Ramesh Chandra will be given the award for his novel 'Vinayak' while Munawwar Rana's poetry collection "Shahdaba" (Urdu) will also be awarded. Apart from this, five novels, three books of essays, three of short stories, one of literary criticism and an autobiography have also won the award that recognises premier works in 22 Indian languages.

5. China has conducted the most comprehensive test of a nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missile 'DF-41' which can hit targets as far as 12,000 kilometres, bringing all of the US under its range. The missile has an estimated range of 12,000 kilometres and can carry up to 10 warheads.

9. By delivering an offshore patrol vessel to Mauritius, India exported its first warship. The warship was exported to Mauritius to monitor the offshore area . Built by defence PSU Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited (GRSE) in Kolkata, the $58.5 million ‘CGS Barracuda’ measures 74.10 m in length. It is capable of moving at a maximum speed of 22 knots with an approximate displacement of 1350 tonnes.

10. State-run power gear maker BHEL has bagged a Euro 16.96 million contract for a thermal power project in Turkey. The order has been placed on BHEL by Electricity Generation Company which is the largest electric power company in Turkey. The company has bagged a contract for rehabilitation of 3 units of Electrostatic Precipitators for the 430 MW Tuncbilek Thermal Power Project in Turkey on EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) basis.

President Barack Obama has signed a massive annual defence policy bill which grants USD 1 billion to Pakistan for the expenses made by its army in support of the US military operations in war-torn Afghanistan. The National Defence Authorization Act for the fiscal year 2015, signed by Obama, sets overall defence spending at USD 578 billion which has provision for release of Coalition Support Fund amounting to USD 1 billion to Pakistan.

1. Why investment banking? Why do you want to work at our bank?

In your response, highlight that investment banking is a very competitive and lucrative area, offering

tremendous growth opportunities. Talk about the latest industry trends and how they impact businesses in the bank’s specialty. Talk about the opportunities presented recent mergers and acquisitions and the challenges due to by the sub prime crisis. Has Lehman Brothers responded appropriately? What are your thoughts on JPMorgan and Bear Stearns? Be prepared to discuss the firms on the front page of today’s Wall Street Journal.
You need to convince the interviewer that you have the necessary drive, capabilities, and personality best suited to become a successful investment banker. Gaining the trust and respect of the recruiters is very important for cracking these interviews. Talk about the company’s position in the industry and how it differs from that of other Wall Street listed firms – both bulge bracket and boutique.

2. What value is our stock trading at? Trading volume compared to bulge bracket firms.

Before going for an investment banking interview, go through the financial profiles of the bulge bracket firms and identify the highlights. Be aware of the rankings of the investment banking firms in various segments, such as advisory services or asset management. Stock movements are often a reaction to the latest happenings and have less to do with the company’s fundamentals. Study the recent stock price movements and be ready to answer questions related to a sharp movement in the share price or jumps in trading volume.

3. Walk me through the high points and low points in your resume. What were your greatest accomplishments and challenges?

Communication, leadership, problem solving, and working under pressure are the key skills in an investment banking job. You should highlight that you are flexible enough to adopt new styles and methods of functioning, while being willing to work as part of a bigger team.
Talk about your core competencies and how you used them to achieve measurable results at a previous job or during your education. Discuss your failures, how you handled the situations, and what you took away from them. Whenever possible, talk about deals you’ve participated in. There are few things than interest an Associate or Senior Vice President more than deals.

4. Describe some risks you’ve taken. How did you make the decisions?

An investment banker’s job often involves tough decisions, keeping in mind the political changes, various macroeconomic variables and the market trends. The ability to take risks is important. You need to demonstrate adequate analytical skills and how they were used in managing risk associated with a particular deal. You should highlight the logical assumptions and calculated guesses made by you while undertaking a risky project or decision. In an investment banking career, it is often more about being “roughly right” than “precisely inaccurate.”

5. Describe an ethical decision you had to make.

Ethics, trust and integrity are often challenged in an investment banking job. Look at the sub prime crisis, the near collapse of the mortgage giant, Fannie Mae, and the restatement of financial accounts of several investment banking firms in recent years. It is often unethical (or even unlawful) practices that are the main contributors to situations like these. Discuss an instance when you had to make an ethical decision – what did you take into consideration? How did you finally come to a decision? These are insights into how you work and what the firm can expect from you in tough situations.

6. Why should we hire you?

Be ready for this one. Be confident but not cocky. Highlight that you are the right candidate because you can hit the ground running and are flexible enough to move with the changing environment. The core competencies essential to an investment banking career are: problem solving ability, professional attitude with willingness to adapt and remain flexible, leadership and communication abilities, resourcefulness and the drive to succeed.

7. When you are not working, what do you do?

Investment banking jobs involve long hours and a lot of hard work – there are simply no two ways about it. That does not mean that firms want to hire people without a personality and other interests outside of work. Highlight activities you enjoy that demonstrate risk taking, recharging and an outgoing personality. Let you personal life reflect what investment banking firms are looking for.

8. How much do you read? What do you read?

The types of books and magazines you read reflect your personality and highlight your passion for the industry and the finer things in life (why else take an investment banking job?).The Wall Street Journal and your industry specific trade magazines must be on your list. Also include other readings that show you are not one dimensional in your interests.

9. Do you learn more from success or failure?

Your attitude toward both success and failure could be the difference in determining whether or not you get an investment banking job offer. Deals flop, it’s part of the investment banking game. Discussing how you do a quick post mortem and lessons learned discussion, then move on to the next deal is the best approach. Learning from but not dwelling on the past is the key.

10. What is the difference between Nationalized bank and Private Bank ?

A Nationalized bank is one that is owned by the government of the country. Since the people decide who the government is, they are also referred to as public sector banks. The government is responsible for the money deposited into the accounts of these banks. Where as a private sector bank is one that is owned by an independent individual or a company that is controlled by a few individuals. In short, the bank is owned by someone else and they run the bank. The person owning/running the bank is responsible for the money deposited into the accounts of these banks.
